Rockets start fast and coast to victory

Toledo, OH

                The Toledo Rockets (3-2, 1-1) jumped out to a 14-0 1st quarter lead with a 28-yard reception by Junior Vandeross III and a 11-yard run by Chip Trayanum.  The homecoming crowd was in for a treat as the Rockets pushed their advantage to 35-3 at the half before extending their lead to the final margin of 45-3. Quarterback Tucker Gleason passed for 237 yards (16-19) with 3 scores and a rushing touchdown. Gleason’s primary target on the day was senior Junior Vandeross III with 2 touchdowns and 122 yards on 9 receptions. Chip Trayanum led the team in rushing with 75 yards.

                Defensively Toledo held the Zips (1-4, 0-1) to 145 total yards. Akron’s quarterback duo of Michael Johnson Jr. and Brayden Roggow were held to a paltry 79 yards passing completing 14 of 25 attempts. Jordan Grant’s 22 yards rushing topped Akron on the day. The Zips only points came on a 39-yard field goal in the second quarter from Owen Wiley.
