Georgia Southern vs Clemson Preview

CLEMSON, S.C. — Clemson returns to Death Valley on Saturday night looking for a forceful response when it hosts Georgia Southern in a nonconference matchup. The Tigers enter at 0-1 after suffering a stunning 51-10 loss at No. 11 LSU, the largest defeat of Dabo Swinney’s tenure at Clemson. The setback immediately put the spotlight on Clemson’s ability to regroup, particularly after an offense that struggled to keep pace with LSU. Georgia Southern arrives with considerably more momentum after opening its season with a 31-0 shutout of Charleston Southern, giving the Eagles a 1-0 start and an opportunity to measure themselves against an ACC opponent on the road.

For Clemson, Saturday’s contest represents more than an opportunity to even its record—it is a chance to restore confidence before the schedule moves deeper into ACC play. The Tigers will be expected to establish themselves at the line of scrimmage, generate a more productive rushing attack and avoid allowing Georgia Southern to hang around into the second half. The Eagles, meanwhile, can play the role of spoiler with far less pressure after their convincing opener. Georgia Southern has shown in the past that it is capable of stunning major-conference opponents, including road victories over Florida in 2013 and Nebraska in 2022. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Memorial Stadium, with Clemson seeking its first victory of 2026 and Georgia Southern attempting to turn an encouraging start into an early-season statement.
